Hello fellow Alums!
I’m Rohit Bhasin and I joined the firm in 1996 as an Associate Director (a new designation created at the time) and grew steadily, till I made Partner in 1999. I was trusted to be the new Deals Partner and was made in charge of the Mumbai practice. I’m proud to say that I was able to turn the practice around with the help of my colleagues in the three years that I led the Deals team there. I went on to become the Valuations Leader and was successful in running the highest margin practice within PwC. I was elected by my fellow partners to the Partner Oversight Committee (POC) and resigned from there after I was inducted into the India Leadership Team as Partner Affairs Leader sometime in 2012. I decided to hang my boots and took voluntary retirement in March 2017.
If I had to take a wild guess at how my former colleagues would describe me, I’d say they’d call me friendly, fun loving, supportive, focused and supportive but also perhaps political and close-chested.
A personal memory that I will always cherish was the time I needed to meet some temporary financial obligations for a property purchase. When a couple of my fellow partners learnt of my need, the support they offered made me realise how special this organisation truly is – just like family.
I wanted to share a photograph with a memento given to me by the firm – one that really means a lot to me. All the Partners were meeting for a Partners Meet in Agra. Our surprise gift – An iPad, courtesy the then Chairman Deepak Kapoor, created a wonderful ripple among us. It wasn’t so much about the gift as much as it was about the thought behind it.
A message I’d like to end this note for my fellow alums is, to paraphrase Winston Churchill's famous words: “Ask not what your Firm can do for you, ask what you can do for your Firm!”
