An experience I will cherish

I recently met the 19 ‘Fellows’ of the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) India, an organisation that PwC India Foundation has been proudly partnering since 2016

I admire people who have the courage to follow their passion...they don’t have to chase excellence, it comes naturally to them. Imagine the experience I had with a room full of such energetic young entrepreneurs…all of whom are on a journey to make a profession out of their passion for social change – it was stimulating!

This happened when I recently met the 19 ‘Fellows’ of the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) India, an organisation that PwC India Foundation has been proudly partnering since 2016. Their powerful ideas to bring about tangible change – from creating an organic farming community that will boost rural employment to rehabilitating juvenile offenders and integrating them back into mainstream society – all of them were so invigorating that I found the hours that I spent with them too few.

A common thread that I see between what we, as an organisation believe in and what the Fellows have set out for is the commitment to solve important problems - While one of the Fellows is working on digitising the techniques of dairy farming to benefit rural areas, another is working to improve the conditions of mental health accessibility and awareness in India, and yet another one is working on creating clothing for the physically differently abled. Their humble backgrounds, inspirational stories of their struggle so far and the twinkle in their eyes when they shared their small successes... all of it has thoroughly impressed me.

An experience I will cherish

While I exchanged some of my humble work-life experiences with them, I could realise that my challenges resonated with what they too are facing. An interesting question that got me thinking was when one of the Fellows asked me whether it’s better to follow one’s head or one’s heart? I will share with you what I told him... it always makes sense to follow the heart wherever one can, but where the impact is huge and irreversible, it is wiser to fall back on data and make an informed decision.

Meeting the SSE Fellows is an experience that will stay with me… it helped me get up close with the real agents of change who have set out to shape the future of our country. More importantly, it also reaffirmed my belief that if one is driven by passion, despite all the hurdles, dreams do come true.

My message to all of you with a dream... just keep believing! We are here to help and guide to make it a reality for you- just reach out!
