‘Karnataka - A Aerospace Hub of India’ presents PwC’s viewpoint on Karnataka’s inherent strengths in providing a balanced ecosystem for manufacturing and services companies. The current existence of a large density of aerospace institutions and new companies establishing operations in the city’s outskirts, in key industrial belts surrounding Bangalore and in north Karnataka, combine to make Karnataka a very attractive destination for the Aerospace and Defence industry.
The global recession and significant margin pressures will continue to force global OEM and Tier-1 suppliers to undertake major restructuring and cost cutting exercises. Emerging economies which provide significant cost benefits are increasingly being considered as an outsourcing destination for manufacturing. The State, with its investor friendly government, simplified procedures and fast-track business approvals through single window clearance mechanism and a supply chain developed by old-economy aerospace and engineering firms, has the potential of developing into an innovation and R&D hub. The report is based primarily on interviews with industry participants, secondary research and internal insights. It however, points out that as in the rest of the country, infrastructure remains a key challenge in Karnataka.
