Indian Depository Receipts - A New Beginning

In keeping with India's ongoing popularity as a preferred investment destination among international investors, the Government of India had introduced the concept of Indian Depository Receipts (IDRs) to facilitate listing by foreign companies on Indian stock exchanges.Through issue of IDRs, a foreign company can access Indian securities market for raising funds. Although, the rules were laid down much earlier, it came into limelight recently, when Standard Chartered Bank raised around $1 billion through IDRs for the first time.
